Good budget-friendly hoof-pick

This hoof pick is durably made and will certainly last a long time. I'm not the biggest fan of hoof picks that have a flathead screwdriver for the pick but I can appreciate that these ones have more rounded edges because some of them on the market are sharp as heck and that just is a safety issue when trying to dislodge stuff in between the frogs. The bristles are stiff and it's easy to brush away dirt, manure, and small stones. My biggest thing with this pick though is the handle, the finger grooves really should be on the pick end because if you hold it the way the grooves are placed as it's designed you lose leverage because you end up pulling the pick towards you which feels really unnatural and I also don't want to be pulling dirt and muck towards me and having it fly up into my face if I hold it that way. For the price, it's a good hoofpick, it gets the job done, and yes you can hold it the other way but it just doesn't feel as ergonomic as it could be. It's good for keeping in a show bag for quick touch ups but I do not see myself grabbing for this on a daily basis to use.

The you pick side is good, but the brush side could use some improvement.

This Equine Tools Direct Horse Hoof Pick with Brush, Soft Touch Ergonomic Black Handle, Durable Plastic Hoof Cleaner Tool for Horses, Ponies & Farrier Use is quite functional, but the plastic bristles don't hold up very well.Overall I like this hoof pick, as it is comfortable to hold and works well when picking. The only downside is it does not take long for the plastic bristles to get smashed in all sorts of directions so they are no longer as effective as they should be. I knew that was going to be the case, as I have had similar tools before and they all suffer from the same problem. I primarily ordered this because I needed the pic side and I'm happy with the way that performs overall. I would order this again, as it seems we can never have too many hoof picks on hand.

Much more comfortable to hold, durable and effective

In the past I’ve not been the biggest fan of these kind of good picks. A lot of people have them in their stable kits, but I always found them uncomfortable to use because the bristles hurt my hand when I gripped it. However I’m pleasantly surprised by this one. The hand is a bit wider and longer, so it’s much more comfortable to hold and I’m able to grip it so much easier without my hand being poked. The appeal with these picks is they have the normal metal edge that easily breaks up the larger packed dirt clods and then the stiff bristles to brush away any of the finer and smaller pieces, so you can get better visualization of the frog, the shoe and all areas of the hooves. This is a heavy duty pick so I think it’s going to hold up well during daily use and be an effective stable tool. It’s also affordable which is always a plus!

Average hoof pick for occasional use gets the job done.

Decent hoof pick but definitely nothing to write home about. Its pretty small and flat, not a rounded handle. Definitely not what I would choose if I were working with horses all day long but for some backyard grab quick its just fine. AND if you wanted something super portable it does fit the bill.Aside from that, it does feel reasonably sturdy at least so at this price point it will get the job done.

Very study/best for adult use

This hoof pick is very sturdy and well made. My hands are on the smaller side- size small for gloves/womens, I can hold the hoof pick and use it with no problem. But it probably isn't suitable for a child. The bigger your hands are the more comfortable this will likely be. The title says soft touch ergonomic- nothing soft about it, it is hard and sturdy plastic. Ergonomically molded for a larger hand. I would still rate it 5 stars because it does seem like it would last a long time.

Nice pic for the price

Sturdy of pink with a brush. The molded plastic handle fits your hand very well and provides a good stabilityI would keep one on you when you ride and in your trailer and in your area where you tack upThis is a good value for this option. I would like to choose different colors so I can find it more easily in the grass. It’s comfortable to use

Handy, sturdy, comfortable hoof pick

This is a handy hoof pick with the built in brush. It will be great for putting in the saddle bag for trail rides. The end of the pick is like a flat head screwdriver versus pointed like my other picks. This is the type my farrier uses. It works well for my mini horse and my Tennessee Walker. The handle with contours for the fingers is comfortable and allows for a good grip while using it in either hand.

Decent quality stiff bristle hoof pick

Update: Had a chance to use it more in the stable this week--the square shape gets extremely uncomfortable when trying to pick out heavy dirt/caked in mud--if your putting alot of pressure. For the price, this hoof pick/brush isn't bad. It's pretty sturdy and the head of the pick is not an "add on" it's all connected to the handle--which usually indicates a longer lasting pick. This pick is not definitely not "top of the line" and for example the plastic is a less expensive quality (but for 11.99 it's reasonable)! We will see how long it lasts, but it does look very sturdy. The handle grip is a bit stiff--I wish it had a rubber grip-- which in my opinion work best when your hands are wet, sweaty or just dusty/dirty--you can get a nice hold. There is a slight wave on one side--but I do wish the finger grips were more pronounced (or at least had rubberized "finger grooves".The metal pick is sturdy (I prefer the angled shape--rather than just a straight pick shape--but that's a personal preference), and will get in the corners alright. It sticks out up above the plastic head about 1", which should be plenty for getting in and around the frog. The bristles on the hoof brush are also about 1" long, and stiff--but not so much that they would hurt the leg, if you used it to brush away caked on dirt around the pastern and coronet band.

Great hoof pick right to your door

Good quality hoof pick. Same size handle as any of the others we’ve had. Seems strong and does the job well. If the pick portion was a little longer and at more of an angle like the one in my pictures, it would help on larger horses. Great product though, and it gets delivered to your door.

Good for everyday use

This fits perfectly in my hand. It seems sturdy and resistant. The brush bristles are stiff, helpful for cleaning hoof nooks and crannies. The metal hook part is like a bent screw driver, which I think is safer and more versatile than a thin, sharp blade. This can be used on a daily basis for general hoof-picking.

Same as using a screwdriver!

You could really see it on the website picture, but the digging part of the hoof pick is basically a bend screwdriver head. There is no sharp point to really get into the corners of the hoof. Brush is good and stiff. The handle fits my hands fine, but I am a woman of small statue. I think the handle would be too small to be comfortable for a larger lady or a man.

Just your average hoof pick

I was super excited to try out this hoof pick but the pick is very flat and wide. I would have preferred a more angled head to the pick as it wasn't as easy to clean out the hooves as some of my other picks. The pick is very durable and easy to carry around. It's effective and works okay. I would say this is just an average hoof pick.I think the price is a little bit high but of course that has to include shipping. As for appearance I think I would have preferred a brighter color.

Decent mid-range hoof pick

Decent mid-range hoof pick. Fits fairly comfortably in the hand but lacks the weight of a nicer pick. The bristles do get squashed and out of shape if not stored correctly. The wide pick tip works for some things but not everything. Overall decent.

Durable

This hoof pick is one of the most durable picks i've seen.Pros:- very sturdy- nice stiff brush- ergonomic handleCons:- the balance is off. I find its a bit long for my hand, making it difficult to get easy leverage for picking hooves. Could be better for larger hands.- due to the leverage issue, when prying, I find the square parts of the handle dig into my hand a bit.Im giving 5 stars overall due to the durability

Perfect hoof pick for grooming bag

After recently misplacing my hoof pick I was excited to find this. It is made out of durable plastic that is lightweight and has a comfortable gripping handle. The pick itself works efficiently to clean out the hoof and get into specific divets for a full clean. The brush does a great job topping it off to clean and sweep away all the debris after picking. I also appreciate the black color as it helps to conceal dirt and grim from the barn environment. Overall a great value that does an excellent job.

Comfortable and Handy Hoof Pick

This hoof pick has been a great addition to the grooming kit. The ergonomic handle is comfortable to hold and gives a secure grip, even during longer grooming sessions. I like the soft touch handle because it feels easier on the hands compared to harder plastic picks. The metal pick is sturdy enough to clean packed dirt and mud from hooves, while the attached brush helps sweep away smaller debris quickly. It makes hoof cleaning faster and more convenient having both tools together in one.It feels lightweight but durable and has held up well with regular barn use. Overall this is a simple but very useful hoof cleaning tool that works great for everyday horse care.

good pick and brush

The Equine Tools Direct Hoof Pick gets the job done well and has a couple of features I really like. The brush is sturdy and useful for clearing out dirt and debris, and the screwdriver-style point on the pick works great for packed mud and cleaning around the frog. The soft touch handle is comfortable to hold while grooming. My only complaint is that I wish the handle was a little more substantial or heavier in the hand. It feels a bit lightweight compared to some other hoof picks I’ve used. Still, it’s a handy and durable tool that works well for everyday hoof cleaning.

Great pick!

I really like this pick. I’m gonna come back and grab some more. It’s not too small. It’s not oversized. The hand grip is great. The pick itself is a decent size works as it needs to very well-made. Very happy.
